OFFICIAL — Celtic release statement after Scottish Cup semi-final ticket chaos leaves fans furious

Celtic apologise after ticket chaos leaves fans frustrated ahead of semi-final.

As the season edges toward its decisive moments, Celtic FC find themselves battling on more than one front.

While attention on the pitch remains fixed on silverware and ending the campaign on a high, frustration is continuing to grow off it — particularly among supporters.

Trips to Hampden Park are supposed to be special. Big atmospheres, high stakes, and unforgettable moments. But for many fans, the experience leading up to those occasions has become increasingly stressful rather than exciting.

Securing a ticket has turned into a major hurdle. Ballots, online systems, and restricted allocations have made what should be a simple process feel complicated and, at times, unfair. For loyal supporters who follow the club consistently, the growing difficulty has only added to the sense of frustration.

Heading into the Scottish Cup semi-final, there was initial optimism. With a larger ticket allocation confirmed, many believed more fans would finally get the opportunity to attend. However, that hope quickly faded.

When tickets were released to those successful in the ballot, things began to unravel. The online purchasing system — the only available method — experienced technical issues at a crucial moment. Supporters reported being unable to assign client codes, preventing them from completing transactions.

To make matters worse, those affected were pushed back in the queue, particularly on platforms like Ticketmaster. What should have been a straightforward purchase turned into a drawn-out and frustrating experience.

Unsurprisingly, social media was flooded with complaints as fans voiced their anger at missing out through no fault of their own.

Following the backlash, Celtic’s Supporters’ Liaison Officer, John Paul Taylor, addressed the situation publicly after the issue was resolved.

“Apologies for any issues caused earlier with Semi Final Tickets…
Seems to have been a problem at service provider side but have been advised that it’s resolved and site is up and running now.”

While the apology acknowledged the problem, it has done little to ease wider concerns. For many supporters, this is just the latest in a series of issues surrounding access to major matches.

Ticketing problems at Hampden have been building for some time. Last season, confusion arose ahead of the semi-final against St Johnstone when tickets were initially made digital-only and non-transferable — a decision that was later reversed, but only after sales had already begun.

Earlier in the current campaign, tensions escalated further when fan groups like the Green Brigade and Bhoys raised the possibility of boycotts. A major sticking point has been the rise in premium hospitality packages, priced between £150 and £300, which include added perks such as meals and transport from Celtic Park to Hampden.

At the same time, increased demand through the Home Cup Ticket Scheme has made access even more competitive, leaving many regular supporters relying on luck rather than loyalty.

All of this now sets the stage for another huge occasion.

Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final is scheduled for a 2PM kick-off on Sunday, 19 April — a rematch that carries extra weight following December’s Premier Sports Cup final disappointment.

While focus will soon shift back to the action on the pitch, for many fans, the biggest challenge remains simply getting inside the stadium.
