Celtic FC have reinforced their long-term vision by securing the futures of two important squad members, with Liam Scales and Luke McCowan both signing new contracts at the club.
The deals highlight stability, trust, and a clear commitment to building a strong core as the Hoops aim to maintain dominance domestically while pushing forward in European competition.
Scales Commits Until 2030
Defender Liam Scales has signed a new deal that will keep him at Celtic until the summer of 2030, marking a major milestone in his journey at the club.
Approaching 150 appearances, the Irish international has grown into a reliable and composed figure in the backline. Once seen as a squad option, Scales has developed into a key contributor, earning trust through consistent performances and a strong defensive presence.
Speaking after signing his new contract, Scales said:
“I’m delighted to commit for another few years here. It’s an amazing club and I’ve grown to love it. I feel a real part of it now.
I really enjoy myself here, I love my life here in Scotland and it was good for all parties to get this done.
I feel like I’ve got the game experience now, I’ve played nearly 150 games for the club and I’ve played for Ireland.
It’s all coming together nicely and I just want to continue on the right trajectory over these next few years.”
The extension reflects both his personal growth and the club’s confidence in his ability to remain a key defensive figure during his prime years.
McCowan Extends Until 2028
Midfielder Luke McCowan, who joined from Dundee in 2024, has also committed his future by signing a new deal until 2028.
Since arriving, McCowan has adapted quickly to the demands of playing for a club of Celtic’s stature, showing maturity and resilience both on and off the pitch.
Speaking about his new contract, McCowan said:
“I’m just so happy that we got the deal over the line and now I’m able to help the boys for the coming years and be a part of this amazing squad.
I think I’ve become a lot more mature in terms of winning and losing, and I’m dealing with a lot of press and media now.
To be a part of the team as well through winning and losing has been a massive part because nobody likes to lose, but when you do – it brings you closer as a team sometimes.
We’ve been able to do that, but the highs have been absolutely amazing and hopefully there’s more to come with that.”
A Statement of Intent
These contract renewals send a strong message about Celtic’s long-term strategy. By securing two players who are still developing and entering their peak years, the club is building a stable foundation for future success.
For supporters, it provides reassurance that the squad will maintain continuity rather than constant turnover. For the club, it ensures control over key assets in an increasingly competitive transfer market.
Both players are expected to play vital roles moving forward, as Celtic continue their pursuit of silverware and aim to make a stronger impact on the European stage.
Ultimately, tying down Scales until 2030 and McCowan until 2028 reflects ambition, planning, and belief — qualities that could prove crucial in the years ahead.
