Nicolas Kühn could already be on the move again only months after leaving Celtic, with Como now reportedly open to selling the winger following a disappointing spell in Serie A.
That alone speaks volumes.
Kühn made the switch to Italy last July in a £17 million deal, expected to build on the exciting form that made him such a key attacking force in Glasgow. Instead, his time in Italy has quickly gone off track.
Quite simply, it has not worked out.
At Celtic, Kühn was confident, direct, and dangerous in the final third. He flourished in a system that allowed him to receive the ball high up the pitch, take on defenders, and express himself with freedom.
In Italy, that platform has disappeared.
Serie A is far more compact and tactically rigid. Space is tighter, defenders are more disciplined, and attacking players are given far less time to react. For a winger who thrives on quick decisions and momentum, that shift has clearly taken its toll.
The stats back it up.
Kühn has made 20 league appearances — most from the bench — and has managed just one goal. More tellingly, he has not featured in a Serie A match since February 14, a clear sign he has slipped down the pecking order.
Under manager Cesc Fàbregas, Como have settled into a system that no longer depends on the German winger. That explains why the club are now willing to move him on.
Reports indicate Como would listen to offers this summer, hoping to recoup over £10 million — a significant loss less than a year after signing him.
It’s a dramatic turnaround and highlights just how quickly fortunes can change in football.
There are also signs the club are already planning ahead. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Fares Chaibi has been linked as a potential replacement, suggesting Como are preparing for life without Kühn.
During his time at Celtic, Kühn delivered 21 goals and 15 assists after joining from Rapid Vienna, looking like a player ready for the next step.
Instead, that move has stalled.
Now, just seven months later, he could be searching for another fresh start — proof that the right system can be just as important as talent.
