Auburn Shock: Star Freshman Guard Abruptly Exits Just Days After NIT Win!

Auburn Tigers Lose Freshman Guard to Transfer Portal

The Auburn Tigers are already feeling the effects of roster changes just days after winning the NIT Championship.

What should have been a celebration is turning into a period of transition.

Freshman guard Kaden Magwood has entered the transfer portal, becoming the second Auburn player in recent days to leave. The former four-star recruit played 20 games in his lone season on the Plains.

Magwood started strong, serving as a backup point guard and even earning a few starts early in SEC play. This came after Tahaad Pettiford was temporarily removed from the starting lineup for disciplinary reasons.

However, his momentum stalled. Head coach Steven Pearl pulled him from the starting five, citing off-court issues and defensive struggles. His role quickly became limited.

Reports suggested Magwood was asked to move to the scout team. He responded with several heated Instagram posts. Later, it was clarified that Magwood had requested the move himself.

After that, he saw little court action until the NIT, where he played in all five games. He scored a season-high 14 points against South Alabama in the opening game.

Magwood follows freshman international player Filip Jovic as the second Tiger to enter the transfer portal recently. Auburn will also lose Keyshawn Hall and KeShawn Murphy after they exhaust their eligibility.

The transfer portal window remains open for 15 days, closing on April 21. Auburn now faces the challenge of reshaping its roster for next season.

While the NIT Championship capped the season positively, the departures highlight a transitional phase for the program. The next few weeks will be crucial in ensuring Auburn remains competitive.

In the modern era of college basketball, such roster shifts are common. For Auburn, turning these changes into opportunities will be key heading into the next campaign.
