Ally McCoist Spots Potential Rangers Final-Day Advantage as Falkirk Cup Scenario Creates Dramatic Season Twist

Ally McCoist believes Rangers may have an unexpected advantage heading into the final day of the season,
pointing to a potential fixture twist involving Falkirk and the Scottish Cup that could influence how
the closing league match unfolds.

Speaking during a discussion on talkSPORT with Alan Brazil, the former Rangers striker suggested that the
final game of the campaign could carry added significance depending on Falkirk’s progress in the Scottish Cup.
Rangers are set to face the Bairns on Saturday, May 16, but McCoist highlighted the possibility that Falkirk
could be preparing for a Hampden final just a week later if they overcome Dunfermline.

He argued that such a scenario could force Falkirk into careful squad management, potentially affecting the
strength of the team selected to face Rangers on the final day. McCoist even joked that it would create a
selection dilemma, with a cup final possibly taking priority over a league fixture so close to the showpiece occasion.

Alan Brazil teased his long-time friend over previous suggestions of conspiracies surrounding Celtic’s dominance
in Scottish football, but McCoist remained focused on what he described as a realistic scheduling quirk that
could influence the title run-in.

The discussion also turned to Rangers’ thrilling 6–3 victory over Falkirk, one of the standout games of the season.
McCoist highlighted the importance of key moments in that match, particularly Tochi Chukwuani’s goal just before half-time.

He stressed that the timing of that strike was crucial, helping shift momentum firmly in Rangers’ favour after
they had battled back into the game.

According to McCoist, going into the interval two goals down would have made a major difference, not only in
terms of the result but also with goal difference potentially playing a key role in a tight title race.

Brazil also pointed out Celtic’s noticeable decline in attacking output this season. The reigning champions,
who have dominated Scottish football in recent years, have seen a sharp reduction in goals compared to last campaign.

After scoring over 100 league goals previously, Celtic’s current tally sits at just under 60 with only a few games remaining.

McCoist admitted the statistic was striking, noting that Celtic have traditionally been one of the most prolific
attacking sides in the league and are now operating well below their usual standards.

He suggested the drop-off could be one of the defining factors in a more competitive title race this season.

Despite Celtic’s struggles, McCoist refused to rule out other contenders making a late impact. He pointed to Hearts
as a team capable of causing problems for the top sides.

He referenced their strong head-to-head record against both Celtic and Rangers this season, with only one defeat
across multiple meetings, suggesting they have proven their ability to compete at the highest level.

As the season reaches its conclusion, McCoist’s comments underline how fine margins, fixture scheduling, and form
swings could all play a decisive role in shaping the final standings.
