A title-winning manager is emerging as the favourite to replace Martin O’Neill at Celtic, sparking speculation across Parkhead as fans look ahead to an intriguing summer.

But according to recent opinion from former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, one name is beginning to stand out in the chatter: Jens Berthel Askou.
Askou has impressed in his first season at Motherwell, guiding the club to 21 wins, 12 draws, and just seven defeats from 40 games. His side has scored 71 goals while conceding 37, playing attractive, cohesive football that has drawn praise far beyond Lanarkshire.
Wyness suggests that behind-the-scenes soundings may already be underway and that Askou could be emerging as the “favourite” for the Parkhead role. He even speculates that Celtic could be coordinating summer transfer plans, like a permanent deal for Julian Araujo, in tandem with gauging Askou’s input.
“It does seem that the Motherwell manager seems to be favourite,” Wyness said.
“There could well be soundings if this is going to be a done deal behind the scenes, which it may well be. You’d think they’d be reaching out and getting a thumbs up on players like Araujo as well.”
Regardless of who takes over, a shake-up at Celtic looks inevitable. Askou, if the speculation proves accurate, would inherit a squad in need of attacking reinforcements and a clear vision for the future.
